Project Type:
Permanent Works, Refurbishment
In 2019, Crouch Waterfall were engaged by MPH Construction to undertake the design for facilitating a replacement glazing system to the gable end of Preston Station’s train shed.
Working with Twinfix, who provided the proprietary glazing system, Crouch Waterfall undertaken an analysis of the existing truss structures to ensure they exhibited the requisite capacity to support the system. The structure was designated as Grade II listed, therefore all proposed elements were required to match the existing features as closely as possible.
The design adopted a non-intrusive clamping solution to connect the Twinfix roof system and the gable trusses, removing the requirement for intrusive works into the existing tubular bottom chord of truss structure, thus eliminating hidden elements. The system comprised of a polycarbonate glazing with aluminium fascia members and mullions.
