Goblin Combe, Outdoor Centre
Client:
Framework CDM Ltd
Project Type:
Design, Construction
Aimed at providing a wide range of Environmental Education to all ages and all sectors of the community, Goblin Combe Environment Centre’s new residential facility has been constructed on sustainable principles with the desire from the client for minimal use of concrete and plastics. The system, which comprises a series of factory produced roof, wall and floor cassettes, fuses individual architectural design with fast track building processes to create a quicker, more cost effective and environmentally friendly method of construction.
The system allows buildings to be finished to the client’s own requirements and the integration of renewables. For Goblin Combe Lodge, the client chose larch cladding, Western red cedar roof shingles and timber windows to create a rustic exterior. To minimise environmental impact a bio-mass boiler which burns woodchips, supplies central heating and hot water and a rainwater harvester provides water for flushing the toilets.
Crouch Waterfall designed and detailed the foundations for this two storey accommodation centre, together with the design and detailing of the prefabricated cassettes for the floors, walls and roofing.
