Fairbairn Steam Crane, Princes Wharf, Bristol

Crouch Waterfall was recently approached to offer their services and advice on the stability of the Fairbairn crane in Bristol. The crane, which is currently in the care of M-shed, was completed in 1878 and was classified as a Scheduled Ancient Monument in 1976 due to it being the last surviving Fairbairn steam crane.

Crouch Waterfall’s inspection found the structure to be in a good condition with no signs of distress and more importantly, there is no reflective cracking at ground level on the harbour side. This was an exciting project for Crouch Waterfall to undertake due to the uniqueness of the crane being the last surviving Fairbairn design.
