Platform refurbished at Knighton Station
Knighton Station, located on the Heart of Wales Line, serves the market town of Knighton which is located on the border between Wales and England.
The Warrington team undertook the project to refurbish one of the 2 platforms at the station which consisted of a loose granular material that had resulted in the surface becoming irregular and therefore a potential trip / slip hazard. It was proposed to carry out a full re-profiling of the platform with asphalt surfacing. In addition, the existing waiting shelter located on this platform was to be replaced with a shelter which matches the corresponding structure located on the adjacent platform.
The shelter was designed to comprise of a face brick enclosure, timber dagger boards, non-slip quarry tile flooring, treated timber rafters, treated timber wall plates and a steel profile roof covering. Steel columns were designed to support the roof.
